Paris - The French Prime Minister, Alain Juppe, ordered security to be tightened across the country after an unexploded bomb was found on the high-speed railway line north of Lyons on Saturday, writes Mary Dejevsky. He refused to confirm the bomb was of the same type as the two which exploded in Paris, but a report attributed to well-informed sources said that it consisted of a gas cylinder, explosives, nails and bolts, similar to the bomb near the Arc de Triomphe on 17 August.
French sources named a second suspect being sought in connection with the two Paris bombings. He is Yahia Rihane, an Algerian thought to have masterminded the hijacking of an Air France Airbus last Christmas. France is seeking the extradition from Sweden of another suspect, Abdelkrim Deneche.
