MAPUTO (AFP) - Ivory poachers have struck in the heart of Mozambique's capital city, hacking tusks from stuffed elephants in Maputo's Natural History Museum. The raiders, who broke into the museum at night, chopped eight tusks from a group of four elephants striking dramatic poses in a crowded tableau imitating a stretch of the Mozambican savannah, according to the official AIM news agency. The museum has been closed to the public for several months because the roof is in need of repair.
