General Goffredo Canino resigned yesterday as Italy's army chief of staff, the Interior Minister Nicola Mancino said, Reuter reports from Rome. The former mistress of another general has alleged General Canino was among top military army officials plotting a coup for next spring. Although her account has been widely dismissed, the government is instituting a reform of its intelligence services.
