Frankfurt - Germany's IG Metall union said it would map out a careful strategy of action for a strike it expects to start on Friday. It said its aim in the dispute would be to cripple selected employers - particularly small and medium-sized tool-making firms.

Around 165,000 workers at 628 firms in Bavaria are voting whether to hold the first full-blown strike in the sector for 11 years in support of a new pay deal. Under the union's plan carmakers Audi and BMW would not be targeted. Reuter
