Experts are monitoring a huge glacier in Italy's western Alps amid fears that a huge section could drop onto an inhabited valley, authorities said.
The Rome daily La Repubblica, citing unidentified experts, reported that a block of about 30,000 cubic metres of ice and snow may break free within a month from the Grandes Jorasses glacier on the Mount Blanc range. The collapse could threaten the village of Planpinceux and hotels in the Ferret valley. AP - Courmayeur, Italy
