The Iranian Grand Ayatollah, Mohammad Reza Golpayegani, one of the most senior Shia Muslim clerics, died yesterday aged 96, Reuter reports from Nicosia. Many Shias considered him the foremost Marja Taqlid, the highest rank of the Shia clergy which means 'the source of imitation'.
