Greece concedes
ATHENS - A Greek government minister has said Greece has lost its long diplomatic battle to stop the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia being recognised under that name. 'The name issue has been lost . . . there is no need to discuss it any further,' Theodore Pangalos, minister in charge of European Community relations, said. Greece has campaigned against international recognition of the republic, asserting that its use of the name Macedonia implies territorial ambitions against Greek Macedonia. Reuter
