Pro-Iranian guerrillas stormed Israel's 'security zone' in southern Lebanon yesterday, killing an Israeli soldier in defiance of Israeli threats to hit back, Reuter reports from Rihan, Lebanon.
Security sources said guerrillas fired 70 Katyusha rockets and mortar bombs into the zone, and Israeli artillery responded by shelling areas held by Hizbollah.
It was the biggest guerrilla offensive for months and the heaviest retaliation this year from extra batteries sent to the zone after five Israeli soldiers were killed on 8 and 9 July.
