SANTIAGO (AP) - The former East German leader, Erich Honecker, 80, arrived in Chile 24 hours after being freed by a Berlin court. He was met by his wife Margot and daughter Sonja, and was immediately taken to a clinic for treatment of the liver cancer that halted his trial.
Honecker had been held in Berlin since last November on manslaughter charges in connection with the deaths of 13 people killed while trying to escape to the West across the Berlin Wall.
