London - Britain has agreed to hand over to the Ukraine its research base at Faraday in the Antarctic. The British government decided in 1993 to restructure its research activities in the Antarctic, including in this the option of either converting the Faraday base to an automated facility or transferring it to another country. Ukraine subsequently expressed an interest in taking over the base, which would enable it to continue its scientific research in Antarctic, which had been interrupted by the breaking-up of the former Soviet Union.
