Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi said yesterday that a 'liberation' war lay ahead if South Africa's elections went ahead next month without him, Reuter reports from Ulundi. Chief Buthelezi, leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party, has rejected the post-apartheid constitution and refused to take part in the elections unless amendments are made and the vote is postponed.
Nelson Mandela, the ANC leader, had been due to meet the Zulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini, today. But an ANC spokesman said the meeting in Ulundi had been indefinitely postponed on security grounds.
