Iran yesterday called Algeria's decision to sever relations 'irrational' and said the country was seeking a scapegoat to blame for its own problems, AP and Reuter report from Nicosia. Sudan expressed its 'astonishment and regret' at the decision by Algeria to recall its ambassador from Khartoum. Algeria severed diplomatic ties with Iran and recalled its envoy to Sudan on Saturday, saying both countries had supported Muslim fundamentalists in their fight against the military-backed rulers in Algiers.
