Washington (AP) - Israel said yesterday that it is willing to talk to Syria about withdrawing from the Golan Heights. The Palestinian spokeswoman, Hanan Ashrawi, called for a similar commitment to yield ground on the West Bank, in Gaza and in Jerusalem. 'We hope there will be a comprehensive commitment on all fronts,' she said, but softened the demand by saying that it was not a 'pre- condition' to productive negotiations over Palestinian self-rule.
