Peking has upheld the espionage conviction of a Hong Kong journalist born in China and formally announced his 12-year prison sentence on national television, Reuter reports from Peking. The municipal Supreme People's Court reviewed the case of Xi Yang, a reporter for Ming Pao, but rejected his defence that trial evidence was scant and may have been misused and that his aggressive, earnest reporting met high journalistic standards.
