A leading opposition politician has dropped out of the battle to become Japan's next prime minister, an aide said yesterday, Reuter reports from Tokyo. Michio Watanabe, who heads a powerful group in the opposition Liberal Democratic Party, has decided not to press his challenge, TV Asahi quoted an aide, Taku Yamazaki, as saying.
