Nairobi - The Kenyan President, Daniel arap Moi, turned on the conservationist Richard Leakey yesterday to make his first public attack on a man who was a close friend.
One day after Mr Leakey called for a new political movement and denounced government incompetence, Mr Moi said Mr Leakey had failed as head of the animal conservation body Kenya Wildlife Service and did not have credentials to carry Kenya to future prosperity.
Nairobi University analysts said Mr Leakey, a white Kenyan with a clean public record, would change the face of the opposition. Reuter
