KIGALI - Rwandan rebels have rejected a United Nations plan for a ceasefire around Kigali airport to allow deliveries of food and medicines, a UN spokesman said. Major Jean- Guy Plante said the Rwanda Patriotic Front rebels had told the UN verbally that they would not accept the plan calling for the neutrality of the airport.

The Rwanda government army reported heavy casualties on its side in its latest battles with rebels and asked the UN to help evacuate wounded from a besieged barracks. Reuter
