Kim promises Seoul clean-up

SEOUL (AP) - Kim Young Sam was sworn in yesterday as South Korea's first civilian president for 32 years and pledged to build a new Korea with a cleaner government. 'Misconduct and corruption are the most terrifying enemies attacking the foundations of our society,' Mr Kim said. 'Immediate reform will start at the very top.'

He challenged North Korea's leader, Kim Il Sung, to discuss the unification of the Korean peninsula. But North Korea denounced Mr Kim for calling for inspection of the North's nuclear facilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency yesterday gave North Korea a month to accept a special inspection of two nuclear facilities.
