Liberian rebels slaughtered 300 refugees at an abandoned Firestone rubber plantation outside Monrovia in what a UN official described as an 'orgy of killing and mutilation', AP reports from Abidjan.

'They cut throats, they cut heads, threw out brains, opened stomachs and pulled out intestines, broke legs, and shot, so many bullet wounds that you cannot understand why,' said Augustine Mahiga, of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
