Luanda denies raid on Savimbi

The Angolan government yesterday denied a claim by Unita rebels that its forces had tried to kill the guerrilla leader, Jonas Savimbi, Reuter reports from Luanda.

Unita's allegations that government aircraft raided rebel positions around the besieged city of Cuito while Mr Savimbi was visiting the area at the weekend were an effort to mislead Angolans and the world, the government said.
