Two days of clashes between Malawi's army and the ruling Malawi Congress Party's militia last week have left 22 dead, the External Affairs Minister, Hetherwick Ntaba, said yesterday, AFP reports from Blantyre. Fighting in the capital, Lilongwe, between the army and the Young Pioneers (MYP) militia, loyal to President Hastings Banda, was sparked off by the army who raided MYP establishments on Friday in retaliation for the killing of two colleagues on Wednesday.
