Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, a 61-year-old lawyer, was elected president of Malta by the House of Representatives yesterday, Reuter reports from Valletta. Mr Mifsud Bonnici, the former education minister, was chosen to succeed Vincent Tabone, whose five-year term expired this week. He is a former president of the ruling Nationalist Party.
