Marcos estate fined dollars 1.2bn

A federal jury ordered the estate of the late Philippines president Ferdinand Marcos to pay dollars 1.2bn (pounds 860m) in damages to thousands of dissidents said to have suffered under his rule, Reuter reports from Honolulu. The same jury found Marcos' estate liable in September 1992 for torture an other human rights abuses committed against political opponents from 1972 until his overthrow in 1986.
