STOCKHOLM - Sweden's opposition Social Democratic Party, which built an advanced welfare state, said it would cut benefits if it wins a general election next month. The party, tipped to win election on 18 September, announced a plan to save pounds 4.9bn over four years through higher taxes and cuts in welfare benefits. Reuter
