Mekong flood waters rising
(First Edition)
HANOI - The Vietnamese Red Cross appealed for emergency aid for 150,000 people, as floodwaters in the Mekong delta continued to rise.
So far the floods have caused at least 175 deaths and left an estimated 200,000 homeless in the delta, where 23 million people live. The Red Cross said thousands of Vietnamese who fled Cambodia last year, fearing massacres by the Khmer Rouge, were among those most seriously at risk. AFP
