Menendez jurors in deadlock

LOS ANGELES - Jurors trying the most reported murder case in America - that of the two Menendez brothers who shot dead their parents in a Beverly Hills mansion - have revealed that they are hopelessly deadlocked, Phil Reeves reports.

After three weeks of deliberations, the jury said it has made no progress in deciding a verdict in the case of Erik Menendez, 23, who, with his brother Lyle, 26, has admitted shooting his wealthy parents dead while they were watching television in their living room.

The case is being tried before two juries, one for each brother, in Los Angeles. Lyle Menendez's panel was last night continuing its discussions. The judge has directed the juries to consider four verdicts, ranging from first-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter.

The brothers have admitted killing their father, Jose, a multi-millionaire, and their mother, Kitty, in August 1989.
