Syrian troops stormed a neighbourhood in Homs yesterday, making arrests after a week of violence pitting soldiers against army defectors and others demanding the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad.

It was not immediately clear whether government troops had regained control of the Baba Amr district.

More than 110 people have been reported killed in the past week in Homs, which has turned into one of the main centres of protest. AP
