Sarah Shourd, the American hiker freed this week after spending 13 months in an Iranian jail, is planning to have a medical examination, Omani officials said. The country's rulers mediated a deal for $500,000 (£835,000) bail to win her release.
Ms Shourd has stayed out of the public eye since arriving in the country aboard a private Omani jet on Tuesday.
Her mother – who was waiting at a royal airfield – says her 32-year-old daughter has serious medical problems, including a breast lump and pre-cancerous cervical cells.
