Iraqi forces claim to have captured a key suspect in the bombing of the Golden Dome, which brought the country to the brink of civil war in February.
Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwafak al-Rubaie,identified the arrested man as Yousri Fakher Mohammed Ali, a Tunisian also known as Abu Qudama. Qudama was reportedly captured after being wounded in a clash with security forces north of Baghdad a few days ago. The ringleader of the operation, Haitham Sabah Shaker Mohammed al-Badri, is still on the run.
Mr Rubaie said Qudama had confessed to involvement in the bombing. He said he and Badri were part of a gang which planted bombs in the 1,200-year-old al-Askariya shrine, destroying its world-famous golden dome. The bombing in Samarra was followed by a wave of sectarian attacks on dozens of Sunni and Shia mosques.
