Shocking footage from inside Isis prison

Syrian rebel fighters have uncovered what is thought to be a prison used by Isis militants to imprison and torture women.

Footage reportedly released by Syrian rebel fighters from the Manbij Military Council shows an enclosed space with small, barred windows and bowls of food and liquid on the ground.

Mattresses can be seen on the stained ground along with pillows and blankets.

A message written on the wall in Arabic reads: “God, I have wronged myself, and no one forgives sins but you. Forgive me, you are forgiving and merciful.”

The fighters, who are part of the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told Arab 24 they found sexual stimulants, contraceptives, narcotics and various tools in the alleged prison, which was reportedly divided into 10 small rooms.

One fighter, Ibrahim al-Mohammed, is told the agency: “We discovered an Islamic State group prison for women, with rooms for groups as well as solitary prisoners.

“We found the worst, most violent torture tools, and may God curse them.”

The discovery comes after the SDF reclaimed control of the city of Manbij from Isis, following a US-backed operation that marked the biggest defeat for Isis in Syria since July 2015.

SDF fighters have since come under attack by Free Syrian Army-aligned rebels backed by Turkey, who have launched a new offensive in border regions.

Earlier this year a wide-ranging report revealed more than 31,000 pregnant women living in the so-called Islamic State were being used to create the next generation of terrorists.
