Kurdish ferry hijacker shot dead by Turkish commandos
A ferry hijacking by a Kurdish militant was foiled yesterday after Turkish army commandos disguised themselves as hostages, infiltrated the boat and killed the hijacker.
Twenty-two people were taken hostage on board the Kartepe after it left the Turkish port of Izmit on Friday. Local police occupied the hijacker with negotiations, while a team of commandos climbed aboard from rubber boats, mingled with the hostages and then shot the suspect dead.
There were no other casualties.
