Suruc bombing: Suicide bomber who killed dozens in attack on town close to Syrian border identified

Turkish authorities have identified a key suspect in the attack which killed 32 people in the Turkish border town

The Turkish prime minister has said authorities have identified the suicide bomber they believe was responsible for the suicide attack on Suruc which killed 32 people.

The explosion ripped through the garden of a cultural centre in the town, which is just 10km over the border from Kobani the key batteground between Kurdish fighters and Isis, killing 32 and injuring over 100 people on Wednesday morning.

In a press conference, Ahmet Davutoglu said they believe the perpetrator to have links with Isis but did not elaborate.

Isis has so far not claimed responsibility for the attack on the Kurdish majority city but Turkish authorities believe the attack was in retaliation for the escalation of Turkish military presence on the border against the terrorist group.

Initial reports by Hurriyet News suggested the attacker was an 18-year-old girl but authorities have so far not confirmed this.

According to the Associated Press, the bombing targeted the leftist youth group, the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations, who were holding a press conference in the garden before they were due to travel over the border to help rebuild Kobani.

Mr Davutoglu has indicated further security measures at the border would be discussed at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday in the wake of the attack.

Isis militants were forced out of Kobani by Kurdish forces with the help of US-led air strikes earlier this year but reports last month suggested they had regained a foothold in the city.
