Dramatic video of Damascus suburb airstrike

As the world focuses on the horror of civilian suffering in Aleppo; new footage showing the immediate aftermath of airstrikes in Damascus serves as a tragic reminder that the conflict is nationwide – from Aleppo in the north, to Homs in central Syria and Damascus further south.

The video shows government airstrikes on the Damascus suburb of Arbeen on Wednesday.

Rescuers can be seen struggling to help victims - their vision affected by plumes of smoke and dust. Later on, a warplane can be heard overhead which triggers fear among civilians.

The video captures a cacophony of screams and sirens, which has become a daily reality faced by many Syrians.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the airstrikes have left six dead, including two children.

An estimated 11 million Syrians have fled since the outbreak of civil war in 2011.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 4.8 million have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, and 6.6 million are internally displaced within Syria.
