Police detained and then released three gold-miners in connection with the massacre of 73 Yanomami Indians last week, Reuter reports from Boa Vista. Officials from the government Indian agency said they believe gold-miners killed the Indians. In Brasilia, President Itamar Franco called a session of the National Security Council yesterday to discuss protecting the tribe. The Council was expected to send the army and police to the Yanomami reservation to remove all gold-miners and dynamite their aircraft runways.
