Human rights campaigners in Russia accused police in Moscow of racism over what they said were mass expulsions of dark-skinned Transcaucasians under emergency measures intended to rid the capital of criminals, Reuter reports from Moscow.
Police said they had detained more than 14,000 people without residence permits and deported almost 5,000, most of them from the Caucasus and Central Asia, since they had been given special powers after last week's failed hardline revolt.
