Mountain climbers chanced upon the wreckage of a missing light plane in time to save an aviation student seriously injured in the accident on Mount Makiling south of the Philippine capital, AFP reports from Manila.

Santos de Leon, 17, told reporters he was thrown from the Cessna on impact on Thursday and lay immobilised with a broken arm for more than 50 hours, surviving on rain water. The body of the 21-year-old flight instructor was found still strapped in his seat in the wreckage.
