ROME (Reuter) - The Mozambique President, Joaquim Chissano, arrived yesterday for a meeting with a rebel leader and said he hoped it would lead to early peace in his drought-devastated country.
'There are big expectations from our people and we hope this meeting will lead us to a quick peace,' Mr Chissano said on arrival in Rome for his first face-to-face meeting with Afonso Dhlakama, head of the anti-government Mozambique National Resistance.
