A union leader took over as head of Argentina's state-run health care programme for the elderly yesterday, replacing an ally of President Carlos Menem who resigned amid accusations of corruption, AP reports from Buenos Aires. Carlos Alderete, leader of the electrical workers, was sworn in three days after the resignation of Matilde Menendez.
