The former Slovak foreign minister, Jozef Moravcik, was chosen by a coalition of five parties to replace the deposed Vladimir Meciar as prime minister, Reuter reports from Bratislava. The presidential spokesman, Jan Findra, said President Michal Kovac had approved the nomination.
