An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's north island last night, AP reports from Wellington.
The earthquake was centred midway between the towns of Hastings and Waipukurau, said Terry Webb, a spokesman for the New Zealand Seismological Observatory. He said there were no immediate reports of serious damage or casualties.
