The disappearing mayor of the French Riviera resort of Nice, Honore Bailet, 73, made his first public appearence in five weeks yesterday by turning out to vote in the first round of France's parliamentary elections, AFP reports from Nice. Mr Bailet, a senator allied with Jacques Chirac's neo-Gaullist Rally for Republic, left for a holiday in Tunisia on 17 February, and a week later, his step-son, Carmelo Fidele, was charged and detained in connection with the murder of a Nice restaurant owner.
