A fire at a Chernobyl-type nuclear power plant in the Russian city of Smolensk briefly cut electricity to the neighbouring country of Belarus, officials said but no one was injured and no radiation was released, AP reports from Moscow.

The Smolensk plant, which went into operation in the 1980s, has three RBMK reactors, the same kind that exploded and burned at Ukraine's Chernobyl plant in 1986.
