New Delhi - India's Supreme Court swept aside challenges to the privatisation of the country's telecommunications system, handing the government a victory ahead of general elections. The court dismissed petitions challenging Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao's decision to open the sector to private investors. The judgment brought cheer to the government as well as firms queueing up to participate in the underdeveloped telephone system. Reuter
