BOGOTA (Reuter) - Colombia's President Cesar Gaviria has sacked three senior army officers in the wake of a bungled military operation that allowed the drug lord Pablo Escobar to escape from jail. They join a growing list of officials blamed during investigations into the escape of one of the world's most dangerous criminals.
Escobar, boss of the Medellin cocaine cartel, and nine of his men slipped out of jail last Wednesday during a military operation to move them to a more secure prison. He had surrendered to officials 13 months ago in return for immunity from extradition.
