PARTY of the year to avoid at all costs: French Consulate. Sydney. Bastille Day. 8pm. RSVP. But with the whole of the South Pacific in an uproar of anti-French loathing months before M Chirac's nuclear eructation is even scheduled, the consul in Sydney had a ghastly attack of pre-party nerves and called the whole thing off. Consternation in Paris. The Quai d'Orsay has now decreed there WILL be a party in Sydney, and that French staff present WILL display all joie de vivre required. Bottoms, um, up. . .
