Sir Percy Cradock, the former British ambassador to Peking, yesterday launched a scathing attack on Chris Patten, the Governor of Hong Kong, Teresa Poole writes from Hong Kong.
Writing in the Sunday Morning Post in Hong Kong, Sir Percy said Mr Patten and his advisers 'have consistently misread China'. Last week's decision to press ahead with part of the proposed electoral reforms was 'the wrong decision'. The subsequent breakdown in Sino-British negotiations was 'a tragedy for Hong Kong'.
