Petrol firms stay in Burma

Oil companies Total of France and Unocal of the United States have extended ties with Burma despite increasing pressure from human rights activists protesting against the military rulers

The two companies said they had joined Burma's state-owned Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise in a production sharing contract. But human rights activists said they planned to step up protests against oil companies.

PepsiCo this week followed a long line of international companies and said it had severed the last of its ties with Burma. Reuters - Singapore
