JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - Nearly 90 South African policemen committed suicide in 1992, the Sunday Times newspaper reported. Almost half the 89 suicides were by young black policemen. The suicide toll is 20 up on the 1991 figure. The rise in the suicide rate paralleled an increase in the number of policemen murdered last year. Between January and December, 225 policemen were killed, an increase of 60 per cent on the 145 killed in 1991.
