PARIS - France will trim its controversial police intelligence service following a snooping scandal and redeploy some of its agents to fight crime, said the Interior Minister Charles Pasqua.
The former chief and a senior officer of the Renseignements Generaux (RG) police intelligence unit were sacked on Thursday in a row after a policeman was found to have spied on a confidential meeting of Socialists. Mr Pasqua said the RG should concentrate on keeping tabs on extremists. Reuter
