A Russian surgeon had to stand stock still in darkness for almost half an hour when the power failed in his operating theatre as he was poised, scalpel in hand, to remove a patient's spleen, Reuter reports from Moscow.
Itar-Tass news agency yesterday quoted Andrei Timushev, a surgeon in the Volga city of Kostroma, as saying: 'Those 23 minutes seemed eternity to me. But the most difficult were the first five and the last three.'
